5-star Hotel by Alnwick Castle Entrance with Culinary Focus

Location & Grounds

Bailiffgate Hotel sits opposite the gates of Alnwick Castle, placing guests within a 5-minute walk of the town centre. The building started as the Duchess High School, and the structure's historical origins are preserved in the theme of the interiors. A scenic courtyard garden offers outdoor seating for al fresco dining and is separated into private partitions.

Dining

The on-site Motte & Bailey restaurant serves British, local, and European cuisines with ingredients sourced from Northumberland. A full English breakfast, à la carte options, and fresh pastries are available each morning. The bar carries local craft beers and a selection of wines and spirits, and the restaurant can cater to vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free diets.

Rooms & Suites

The hotel has 48 bedrooms and suites, some of which are themed to reflect the former school's history. Castle View rooms include windows looking directly onto Alnwick Castle. Junior suites offer a separate WC, a deep bathtub placed before the castle-facing window, and a walk-in double shower.

Family & Pet-Friendly Stays

Family rooms and Two Bedroom Apartments are available and can accommodate groups of four or more. The hotel allows dogs in designated rooms and provides pet bowls and pet baskets upon request. Children can use board games and puzzles provided by the hotel.

Services & Amenities

Free private parking is offered behind the hotel, and a concierge can transport luggage between the car park and the rooms. The 24-hour front desk can arrange guided tours of the surrounding area and book tickets for Alnwick Castle.
