Historic Art Deco hotel with private tidal island access in Bigbury on Sea
Island Experience & Arrival
Burgh Island Hotel sits on its own private tidal island off the Devon coast, reachable only by sea tractor or on foot at low tide. The sea tractor is the only one in the world and provides the sole motorised access when the tide is in. Guests park in a secured garage on the mainland and are transported across the sands by hotel vehicles.
Art Deco Architecture & Rooms
The hotel's Art Deco architecture is recognised as one of the best in Europe, with original features like the stained-glass ceiling in the Palm Court. The 25 rooms are individually decorated and named after famous past guests such as Noel Coward, Agatha Christie, and Amy Johnson. The Cunard room offers the largest balcony on the island with sun loungers and sea views.
Dining
Award-winning afternoon tea is served in the ship part of the building with champagne. Dinner is available in the Grand Ballroom (black tie dress code) or the Nettlefold Restaurant, both offering set menus with options like lobster and sea bream. The Pilchard Inn, a 14th-century pub on the island, serves local ale and fish and chips.
Wellness & Activities
