3-star historic coaching inn steps from Battle Abbey
History & Location
The George Hotel was established in 1699, but an inn has occupied this site for over 600 years. The building once served as a military court during the Napoleonic wars and later as Battle's town hall. Battle Abbey, the site of the 1066 battle, is a 5-minute walk from the hotel.
Rooms & Amenities
All 23 rooms have been recently refurbished and include en-suite bathrooms, a TV, and tea and coffee making facilities. The suite room offers a hot tub. Rooms are on three floors with no lift, accessed via a historic spiral staircase.
Dining & Local Attractions
No breakfast is served on site, but an Italian restaurant operates within the hotel building from Thursday to Sunday. Thai Orchid restaurant is next door. Seaside towns Hastings and Bexhill-on-Sea are less than a 20-minute drive away.
Family & Weddings
The George Hotel is a popular venue for weddings and local events, offering family rooms with generous sizes. Children's meals are available through the on-site restaurant. Free on-site parking and a central location make it convenient for family visits to Battle Abbey.
Parking & Transport
Complimentary parking is available on a first-come, first-served basis behind the hotel. Battle station provides direct rail links to Charing Cross and London Bridge stations. The hotel is within walking distance of Battle's shops, restaurants, and cultural attractions.
