3-star Georgian former monastery hotel with indoor pool and award-winning restaurant in Shaftesbury
History & Character
Best Western The Royal Chase Hotel is a former 17th-century monastery set within picturesque private grounds on the outskirts of Shaftesbury. The Georgian architecture and original arched doorways in the cleaner cupboards still reflect the building's historical origins. This character makes the hotel a popular venue for weddings and celebrations, with tailored service options for parties and discos.
Dining
The hotel's award-winning restaurant, Byzant, serves creative interpretations of traditional and modern English and continental cuisine. Guests can also eat at the Intimate Country Bar for casual dining, snacks, and light meals. Children under 12 eat breakfast free when a parent purchases breakfast, and the full English buffet includes options like salmon and scrambled eggs.
Wellness & Recreation
The hotel offers an indoor heated swimming pool, open all year, with pool towels provided and a shallow end for children. A sauna and solarium are available for relaxation, though the sauna is not switched on until 10am. The pool area includes lockers and changing rooms with good showers, but no lifeguard is on duty.
Guest Accommodations
The hotel has 33 spacious well-appointed en-suite bedrooms, including executive king rooms and family rooms with double and single beds. Rooms feature king-size beds, large bathrooms, and views of the gardens or front car park. Pet-friendly policies allow dogs in specific areas, and extra amenities like dressing gowns and slippers are available upon request.
Location & Practicalities
The hotel is situated near Stonehenge, Longleat Safari Park, and Shaftesbury Gold Hill, with ample free parking and an electric vehicle charging station. Shaftesbury town centre is a 10-minute walk, making Gold Hill easily accessible. The property also offers meeting and banquet facilities for business travelers and group events.
