The Rookery in London, England

Each of the 15 rooms is individually styled with sumptuous antique furniture, artwork, and original period features such as beamed ceilings and open fireplaces. Air-conditioned rooms include a flat-screen LCD TV, and many en-suite bathrooms offer a vintage roll-top bath with handheld shower. The Sophie Rood room on the third floor has a lighted fireplace, beamed ceiling, and a desk-turned-armoire, but note there is no lift and rooms are reached by stairs only.

Breakfast is served in the elegant conservatory or delivered to the room for free, with options including freshly baked croissants, Brick Lane bagels, and a full continental selection. For lunch and evening meals, a room service menu is available alongside a wide range of restaurants and bars within the immediate Clerkenwell area. The honesty bar in the conservatory offers guests personal choice of beverages, with drinks recorded on the honour system.

The Drawing Room and Library are available for private meetings, while guests can relax in front of an open fire in the oak-panelled lounge. A resident cat named Bagheera adds to the homely feel, and the staff are known for personalized guest experiences, including help with luggage and local recommendations. The hotel provides 24-hour front desk, concierge service, luggage storage, daily housekeeping, dry cleaning, and 24-hour security with CCTV.

The Rookery is set 100 metres from Farringdon Railway Station and a 5-minute walk from Barbican Tube Station, offering fast connections on the Elizabeth Line to Heathrow and Gatwick. Within a 15-minute walk are St Paul's Cathedral, the Bank of England, and the Museum of London, while the South Bank's Tate Modern is just over 1 mile away. The hotel is opposite Smithfield Market and surrounded by independent cafes, restaurants, and historic pubs such as The Fox and Anchor.

The Rookery occupies an 18th-century townhouse and retains original features including narrow doorways, wooden shutters, and separate hot/cold faucets. The honesty bar in the conservatory, along with a well-stocked minibar in each room, offers reasonably priced wines and spirits. Guests can borrow books from the library or sit in the garden, and the hotel requires guests to leave room keys at reception when exiting, adding to the private-club atmosphere.
