Family-run inn with a 30-metre well under bulletproof glass
The Well & History
The Well Guesthouse gets its name from the original well set in the restaurant floor, covered by bulletproof glass. Guests can stand on the glass and look down the 30-metre shaft of this original feature. Originally established in 1658, the building served as a coaching inn on the Ridgeway path, Europe's oldest highway.
Rooms & Accommodation
All six en-suite rooms are housed in a quiet annex separate from the main inn. Ground floor offers two double and two twin rooms that are pet-friendly, while upstairs rooms are pet-free. Each room includes Freeview TV and Wi-Fi, plus extras such as homemade biscuits and a scone on arrival.
Dining
Pre-arranged dinner is served at 19.00 with a choice of three main courses from £18.00, plus sweets and desserts at £8.00. Homemade cooked breakfast is offered with vegetarian and vegan options, and packed lunches at £8.00 can be ordered. The on-site bar features local ales and a wine list that guests can add their own bottles to.

The inn is located off the A346, five minutes from junction 15 of the M4 motorway. Nearby attractions include Stonehenge, Avebury, and the cities of Bath and the Cotswolds. Outdoor enthusiasts have access to hiking on the Ridgeway and cycling on King Alfred's Way, with secure bike storage available.

Dogs are welcome with no extra charge, and the ground floor rooms are pet-friendly. Pet bowls are provided, and the hotel offers a boot tray and newspaper for wet boots. The garden area and secure bike storage also cater to active travelers with pets.
