5-star country house hotel with a Michelin Star on 107 acres of Dartmoor
Dining
Gidleigh Park's on-site restaurant holds a Michelin Star and sources ingredients from its own kitchen garden and local Dartmoor producers. The wine cellar offers a selection of fine wines to complement the tasting menus, which change seasonally. Breakfast includes a full English option and continental choices, with eggs Benedict and fresh croissants frequently praised in guest reviews.
Accommodation
The 24 rooms are individually styled with period antiques and feature en-suite bathrooms stocked with L'Occitane toiletries. Some suites, like the Cranbrook, offer large bathrooms and views over the valley. Classic rooms such as Roos and Merrivale include flat-screen TVs and comfortable seating areas, with complimentary Madeira and daily newspapers.
Grounds & Activities
The estate includes a tennis court, putting green, croquet lawn, and a cricket pitch set within 107 acres of gardens and woodland. Guests can follow walking routes directly from the boot room, with hikes up to Dartmoor's open moorland using a free booklet provided by reception. The grounds also house honeybees and a riverfront water garden, with the River Teign running through the property.
Pet-Friendly Amenities
Dogs receive a welcome basket containing bowls, a biscuit, a torch, and poo bags, along with a doggy mattress for sleeping. The hotel allows pets in the lounge and offers a dedicated boot room for muddy walks. The Pavilion, a self-contained two-bedroom cottage with a kitchen, is one of several dog-friendly room options.
Family-Friendly Offerings
Children's bathrobes and slippers are provided upon arrival, and the hotel offers a kids' menu at dinner with reasonably priced options. Activities on site include board games, giant chess, and outdoor games like croquet and mini golf. Babysitting services are available, and the hotel can arrange private dining rooms for families.
